Greece’s Contships Management Inc is claiming a place among the world’s 20 biggest players in the feeder containership market barely two years after being established.

The company has invested about $100m acquiring 19 boxships of between 700 teu and 1,100 teu, betting on growing demand in intra-regional trade against the backdrop of port restrictions for bigger vessels and favourable fleet dynamics, says Maurice Dheere, Contships Management’s chief financial officer and deputy chief executive.

“We commissioned in 2010 three feasibility studies in different segments of the shipping market to propose some projects for investment to our sponsor, Mr Nikolas D Pateras,” Dheere told TradeWinds in an interview.
