Contships continues to grow fleet with VEGA SCORPIO (997 teu) acquisition

Greek Non-Operating Owner Contships Management continues to grow its fleet of feeders and has added one more unit, the 997 teu VEGA SCORPIO (Zhejiang 950) that it has purchased from German owner Vega Reederei at an undisclosed price.

Vega and Contships have a close relationship and the VEGA SCORPIO is the eighth vessel sold by the Germans to the Greeks in recent years.

The ship will meanwhile be the seventh unit of the ‘Zhejiang 950’ design joining the fleet of Contships.

The VEGA SCORPIO recently ended a charter in the Caribbean with US-based King Ocean Services.

It is unclear if a new charter has been agreed in combination with the vessel purchase.

The VEGA SCORPIO was built in 2010 in China by the Zhejiang Yangfan shipyard in Zhoushan.

The ship features a deadweight of 11,768 tons, a length of 139.10 m and a beam of 22.60 m.

She is equipped with two cranes of 45 tons and is fitted with 220 reefer plugs.

The VEGA SCORPIO belongs to the ‘Zhejiang 950’ type, a popular series of twenty-five charter market vessels built between 2005 and 2012.

With this acquisition, the Contships fleet, which consists mainly of smaller feeders of 750-1,496 teu will grow to forty-seven vessels.
