The pair from German seller brings the Greek owner’s fleet to 41 boxships
Contships’ latest acquisitions come after eight sales in last two years
CONTSHIPS Management, a feeder containerships specialist, has acquired two more vessels after a number of sales from its fleet.
The Athens-based company has acquired the 977 teu pair Vega Hercules (IMO: 9319595), built in 2006, and Vega Juno (IMO: 9449699), built in 2008, both from the fleet of German owner Vega Reederei.
The price is undisclosed, but online valuer VesselsValue estimates the two vessels are currently worth an aggregate of about $31.5m.
Both vessels were built at the Jangfan Zhoushan shipyard and are equipped with two cranes of 45 tonnes. They bring to four Contships’ acquisitions so far this year and increase the fleet to 41 feeders.
The company has sold eight vessels during the last two years, including the 700 teu vessels Contship Ace (IMO: 9348637), Box, now trading as A Keiga (IMO: 9385453), Cup, now named Dongjin Highness (IMO: 9385441), and Contship Day (IMO: 9385439). The 18-year-old, 1,096 teu pair Contship Gem, now called MSC Vera F (IMO: 9235610), and Contship Hub, renamed MSC Juanita F (IMO: 9235608), were sold to MSC for $14m en bloc earlier this year.
Contship Galaxy was sold for scrap. Vega Reederei has been a regular source of acquisitions for Contships.
The company’s most recent prior acquisition was the 2005-built Vega Omikron, now trading as Alpha Legacy (IMO: 9308596).
