The N. D. Pateras family has a history in shipowning dating back to the 1870’s. It has played an active and eminent role in the Greek and global shipping industry

  • 1870

    The Markos Pateras family and his 7 sons John, Diamantis, Michael, Dimitris, Panagos, Kostis and George acquire the sailing ships: Vasiliki, Rodon and Katina

  • 1905

    The family acquires their first steamships: Kostis and Dirphys

  • 1939

    Fleet managed by the Oinoussian shipping community exceeds 65 ships. One third of the Oinoussian steamships belonged to the Pateras and Hadjipateras families

  • 1945

    Greek owners supported the Allies by contributing their merchant fleet for the war effort. Few of their ships survived the WWII. The N. D. Pateras family lost many relatives and friends among the officers and crew of their ships

  • 1947

    After the end of WWII Oinoussians bought 14 of the first 100 Liberty ships sold by the US Government to Greek shipowners. The Pateras & Hadjipateras families acquired 8 of those vessels: Agios Nikolaos, Costas Hadjipateras, Konstantis, Nikolas Pateras, Anastasios, Dirphys, Kalliopi and Nikolaos

  • 1957

    Pateras Brothers Limited is established by John & Diamantis N. Pateras, sons of the late N. J. Pateras. The company managed 40 dry cargo vessels between 1957- 1986

  • 1986

    Nikolas D. Pateras starts his shipping career with Pateras Brothers Limited

  • 1989

    N.D. Pateras, age 26, assumes control of Pateras Brothers Limited with a fleet of 11 vessels

  • 1993

    N.D. Pateras, age 30, establishes Pacific & Atlantic Corporation focusing on bulk carriers and multipurpose vessels

  • 2003

    Pacific & Atlantic Corporation surpasses the ownership of 50 bulk carriers and MPP's

  • 2007

    Pacific & Atlantic divests and exits the bulk carrier sector and MPP sector

  • 2010

    N. D. Pateras invests and manages vessels controlled by banks with distressed portfolios

  • 2015

    Contships Management Inc, is established with a strategic focus in investing and managing container feeder vessels

  • 2018

    Contships Management Inc, is voted Best Dry Cargo Company of the Year at the Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards 2018, with a fleet of 33 container feeders

  • 2021

    Contships Management Inc, becomes the world’s leading manager of container feeder vessels between 900-1500TEU with a fleet of more than 40 feeders

  • 2023

    Contships Management Inc, manages 47 container feeder vessels between 900–1500 TEU, calling at 4800 ports , carrying 1.7m TEU annually employing 800 seafarers and 100 shore staff
